During
her teaching career, Ruth has reflected on, developed
and improved her professional skills, knowledge
and understanding. She aims to promote a comfortable
and balanced physical approach to playing; develop
an awareness of style including tone, touch and
technique and encourage creativity and musical communication.
A wide range
of solo and duet repertoire is taught to encourage
breadth and balance in the musical diet. Special
needs students are an interest, including dyslexic,
dyspraxic, autistic and the physically disabled.
Ruth's students enjoy competing in various local
festivals, including Lytham St Annes, Blackpool
and Fleetwood, and have won numerous prizes over
the years. She also provides performing opportunities
for interested students and her concerts have raised
several thousand pounds for charity to date, notably
the Heart Unit and Macmillan Windmill Appeal, both
at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, and the St John's
Church restoration fund, Blackpool.
